Last night I hit up a local video store. I wandered around for a bit, trying to decide if I wanted to A) Give up and go home, B) Go to Blockbuster, or C) Give up and just pick something. I picked C, and picked up two films: The Machinist (Which I've seen, and love, and just felt like seeing again) and Beyond the Wall of Sleep. I'd never seen it, but two things lead me to grab it: The cover-art was interesting and I know of/have read story (I did wonder what they'd done to flesh out such a short, bare-bones story into a full-length film). Plus, Lovecraft.
Unless you like your "horror" films so terribly done as to be comical, avoid BtWoS at all costs. Through most of it, I kept thinking "You need work that badly, E.B?" -- when I wasn't thinking "Christ, I want to turn it off, but I have to see how much worse it gets!"
Seriously bad. AND WE ARE NOT AMUSED BY THE BROKE-DOWN CTHULHU. But that "My brains!" part was... marginally funny.
